The routes

The six days we drive most often.

Six days we keep coming back to. Rice terraces and forest in Ubud. Four waterfalls, all before the afternoon heat. The east, where the mountain stands right behind the temple gate. The north, quiet, with lakes between the hills. The south, and the sun going down at Uluwatu. And Penida, where the cliffs drop straight into blue water. Pick one, then make it yours in the planner.

Waterfall in the Bali rainforest

Four waterfalls in one day

Tukad Cepung early, while the light still comes down into the cave, then three more that most tours don't bother with.

Lempuyang temple gate in East Bali

East Bali and the Gate of Heaven

An early start, so the famous gate photo happens in soft morning light — with the mountain almost to yourselves.

Ulun Danu Beratan temple on the lake

North Bali, lakes and waterfalls

Sekumpul is the waterfall people remember longest, and it's also the longest walk in. After that, the viewpoints above the twin lakes and the temple that stands in the water.

Uluwatu cliffs above the Indian Ocean

South Bali and the Uluwatu sunset

Beaches through the afternoon, the cliff temple and the Kecak dance as it gets dark, then grilled fish on the sand afterwards.

Kelingking cliff on Nusa Penida

Nusa Penida, the west side

Penida runs on its own schedule, and the crossing, the roads and the sites together need a full day. It doesn't fit alongside anything on the mainland.
